Ours is our family vehicle, and my commuter. After the first month, I was adjusted to the size and haven't thought about it since.
I wouldn't tow any hard sided TT with less than a half ton truck (except the little Scamp's, etc.).
I only think about the size of my Ram in parking garages, particularly when my antenna is hitting the signs and/or concrete roof cross members. :E
But I agree with your point on size. I don't agree that a full size SUV can't handle a hard sided TT, though. The limiting factor is weight so you need to be careful there, but if you can stay within axle and payload ratings, there should be no issues. I would keep the trailer pretty short too, since your wheelbase is shorter in the SUV.
