Locking out 6th all depends on where you are pulling. I-95 which is almost completely flat, would not/should not require locking out 6th.
On rolling countryside, or mountainous roads that's probably good advice.
That's exactly what I was thinking, and with a tuner on it, it should have more grunt anyways. Otherwise, what's the point.
I-95 just south of DC is hardly flat. Plus it is the stretch that tend to be stop and go.
Anyway, as posted earlier, the 5* 87 daily/tow tune changes shift points and throttle blade opening at throttle tip in. It does not substantively increase HP or TQ. I locked out 6th before the tune and at 64mph I was at 2200 rpm. After the tune I lock out 6th and at 64 mph the rpms are 2200. For my towing setup, the motor just seems to like 2200 vs the 1900 rpm in 6th. 1900 is too low for a 6.2 IMHO.
Exactly, with the 6.2, it is best to keep a bit higher into the power band, when towing heavy. I also get better mileage at 2100-2200 in 5th, rather than lugging in 6th at 1800-1900. Like mentioned earlier, it is the "sweet spot" when towing.
