First tow with the Ram 1500 EcoD

Finally set up the Roo to the new Ram EcoD. I used the old fashion tape measure setup. I am happy, what do you all think.

No Trailer
Rear 38 7/8"
Front 36 1/2"

Trailer NO WDH
Rear 37"
Front 36 3/4"

Trailer WITH WDH
Rear 37 1/2"
Front 36 5/8"

But, what I am really impressed with is how the truck performed. The truck came off the lot with 3.55 gearing (if I ordered, I would have gone with 3.92). Once she got spooled up, she took off. I got onto the highway, and looked down and saw 70 on the speedo... OOOps, backed down to 65. Towed for a bit, fairly level, and the instant MPG was ranging from 14 to 16. Tranny temps were around 195 (this truck will actually heat the tranny fluid to 192 or so, because that is where they run most efficiently). The truck, in Tow/Haul, stood in 6th gear running about 2100 RPMs at 65. What an upgrade from the Libby Diesel.
  • That is a great match. I think you'll be very happy.

Was that Turbo Lag or ...?

Our 2005 Passat TDI had a bit of that, but once you got used to it, there was no problem.
Both my 2.8 and 3.0 have that slight delay off the line. I fogure it is turbo lag.

  • Trailer weighs about 4500. I was getting 16 on flats with the CRD. I am expecting similar with the EcoD
  • What was your overall MPG towing? How much does your Roo weigh? Sounds like a good match of tow vehicle and trailer. I'd be jealous if you could average 16 mpg towing...!
