lots of great advice given already so I wont add to that.
we bought our first trailer 10 years ago, looked at that majic number "towing capacity" 5000 lbs and bought 3000lb(dry wt) trailer. didn't know squat about payload and all that stuff. BIG mistake!!
Bought a bigger tow vehicle the next spring.
Too big of a trailer becomes a nightmare to tow, slow going up hills, scary coming down, a strong wind will make you need to change your pants!
Don't believe salesmen for a second and don't believe those weight numbers on the trailer! Both of them are there to sell trailers
