I wouldn't set it in full(orange icon) exhaust brake. I think auto(green icon) is much better to keep on while you drive. I only set it on full exhuast brake when I want to slow down since it kicks in everytime you let off the accelerator. In auto mode it only kicks on when I apply the brakes, go over my cruise control speed, or go over the last speed that I was at when I let off the accelerator.
When in "AUTO" mode the EB "IS" working and will be just as aggressive as in "FULL" mode when it needs to be. It is working all the time.
I think Shiner is just illustrating that when he predicts a situation where he will be continuously decelerating or needs to aggressively decelerate without brake actuation, full-on tends to be better for that. I personally just stick with green and lightly press the brakes to activate the EB in auto mode when I need it.
Gee's you two OP's 5er only has a 10,700# GVWR. Yes, play with the EB to find the best setting.
His biggest issue will be checking the mirrors to be sure the 5er is still in tow!!
If he is towing in flat land I would worry less about the EB, and learn very quickly how to use the CRUISE CONTROL!! Otherwise OP will likely be seeing Blue Lights in the mirrors!!!
