First TT Long Haul - Raleigh NC to Madison Wi

This is my 2nd year with this trailer and first long haul trip with it. Will be traveling from Raleigh NC to Madison Wi with an overnight stay at Ky Horse Park. Looking for any tips or advice pertaining to long hauls for this newbie. Any things to avoid, checks I might have overlooked etc. Any advice is welcome.

If the TT still has the original tires on it, I'd have more than one spare with me. They don't necessarily have to be mounted, but if you have more than one go bad, you may not find what you want on the road.

Thanks - I have almost 700 mi on these tires. I bought the camper new March 2013. I'm (excuse phrase) "@nal" on this topic as I learned to tow with Horse Trailers at 16. I know Tires are extremely important on long hauls. Thanks
  • We stay at the KY horse park often its our kids favorite. Good luck on your journey. I did a 3k mile trip through Michigan last summer not really any different prep from a weekend stay at a local place. A few more clothes and we bought our food when we got to our campgrounds instead of hauling it.
  • Grease your ball, torque-check the trailer lug nuts at the start and a couple times afterwards per your owners manual, hope you have a TPMS if it's not too late. That's a beautiful trailer. Enjoy the trip!

  • We make the run to Madison a couple times a year. Coming out of Indy take 74 to Bloomington normal then 39 north to 90 into madtown stay away from Chicago and tolls. This route drives well , with only one toll at Illinois Wisconsin border. Have a good trip.
