I get what you're saying but why doesn't any WD hitch instructions, trailer manuals, receiver instructions, truck manuals, or weight scale instructions ever say to add the weight of your hitch system to get the actual tongue weight you are putting on your receiver? My concern is what my class IV receiver can handle.
I guess what I'm asking is if my trucks class IV receiver has a maximum 930 lb tongue weight rating per Nissan specs and my trailer has an actual tongue weight of 850 lbs loaded why isn't there any literature anywhere that tells me I need to add the weight of the hitch system to the tongue weight # to know "the actual" tongue weight? (In this example it would be over the Nissan rating).
