Followup: 19.5 tire selection and drive unloaded.
I’ve run a few different 19.5s over the years. Reality Check mentioned he switched to Toyo M655 on his F550. Thankfully, he let me know that he was liking them via PM after Winter.
I have had good luck with Toyo tires in other sizes. Today, I had my 6 M655 mounted in 225R70/19.5 size. I have to say I was amazed and DW was too. Sure, we only drove it unloaded, but we drove them on a variety of surfaces empty. Since loaded was never an issue, we were happy to know the noise was less, and the ride was better on all surfaces. For the record, we had them siped and are running balancing beads. I drove a variety of speeds up to 75.
The M655 is very agressive and is 3 Peak rated which should make them better in Winter than any 19.5 tire I’ve run up to this point.
In any case, the new type of construction seems to be great. I guess we’ll see how they hold up over time, but compared to the other tires I’ve run over 15 years, these are great so far.
