I have had very different experience.
Our 2012 2500HD came with 17" steel wheels. I have 285/75-17 Nitto Dura Grapplers rated at 3970#.
This past winter I put the 4 OEM tires back on with alloy wheels to avoid wear on the Nittos.
But for the winter of 2013-2014 I ran the Nittos and had no traction problems at all. This was with no weight in the bed and rarely using 4WD.
Keep in mind that we live in northern New Hampshire.
Nitto ONLY offers this much weight carrying capacity in a 17" size. In any other diameter the 2 tire capacity drops by 500#.
BTW, we really like them- if you couldn't tell.
