I have had very different experience.
Our 2012 2500HD came with 17" steel wheels. I have 285/75-17 Nitto Dura Grapplers rated at 3970#.
This past winter I put the 4 OEM tires back on with alloy wheels to avoid wear on the Nittos.
But for the winter of 2013-2014 I ran the Nittos and had no traction problems at all. This was with no weight in the bed and rarely using 4WD.
Keep in mind that we live in northern New Hampshire.
Nitto ONLY offers this much weight carrying capacity in a 17" size. In any other diameter the 2 tire capacity drops by 500#.
BTW, we really like them- if you couldn't tell.
How does the 34" tire fit on a 2500hd without rubbing? I rub at full lock with the 33" tire. Don't think I'd go bigger than 285/70r17 or 285/75r16. I got stuck several times this winter just going in and out of driveway clearing snow. Live on quite a hill. My wrangler never got stuck once.
Nitto does still list old Terra Grappler on their site but I can't find them anywhere.
