We found a good buy on a used Open Range 310bhs. The unit has a length of 37' 3" and a GVWR of 11400. Would a standard WD\Anti-sway hitch handle that trailer? Such as a Reese straight line, blue ox or husky? Or do I need to step up to a Hensley or Propride? I will be towing with a 2012 F250 PSD, I have a lot of truck but that is a long tail on the dog and I don't want it to start wagging at the wrong moment.
Just because a trailer is longer does not mean it will handle poorly. In fact it may handle better. Often longer trailers back easier than short ones, also. The only thing I would do is to be confident you have enough truck receiver, after that if you want a PullRite, Hensley or ProPride then you are getting the best and only hitches that control sway not just mitigate it. Blue Ox, Husky and Reese are also good hitches. You should have about 13 percent of the total trailer's weight on the tongue for good towing. At gross weight that will be around 1500 pounds plus the weight of the hitch itself. Definately make sure your truck's reciever is rated for that. Curt, Torklift and others make aftermarket receivers. Torklift makes one model that goes up to 30,000 pounds towing and 3000 pounds tongue weight.
