For those towing 37ft TT, Hitch question

We found a good buy on a used Open Range 310bhs. The unit has a length of 37' 3" and a GVWR of 11400. Would a standard WD\Anti-sway hitch handle that trailer? Such as a Reese straight line, blue ox or husky? Or do I need to step up to a Hensley or Propride? I will be towing with a 2012 F250 PSD, I have a lot of truck but that is a long tail on the dog and I don't want it to start wagging at the wrong moment.

  • I use the 12,000 lb rated Equalizer hitch - never had a problem and it's very easy to put on and take off. Like any other hitch, it gets a bit noisy if it isn't lubed. I also like the idea of not having a separate anti sway bar.

  • I tow in the 9,00 lb range with my Blue ox I have never had a problem with sway The bars are rated up to 1500lbs tounge weight.
  • Thank you, I was just looking at the Reese Dual Cam 1500b hitch. I will keep a look out for a used hensley. They have remanufactured Hensley hitches in stock, but for a 100 dollars more I can buy a new Propride.
  • I wouldn't trust the basic friction type sway bars for a tt that long/heavy. That's a lot of leverage. At minimum I would get something with built in sway such as an Equil-i-zer or Reese dual cam. Keep your eyes out for a used Hensley if you don't want to pay full price. Rare, but they can be found.
