Totally agree with rjstractor. I've owned two trucks with the electronic controls for a combined total of about 250,000 miles with zero issues. Part of that is probably due to actually using the 4 wheel drive system periodically.

Another point is that it's easier (as in "safer") to engage 4 wheel drive from a knob on the dash versus leaning down to the lever on the floor, especially if you do it as often as I typically do.
