You do not need to get out and lock hubs, for 4H, or 4L, with the dash dial. The electronic shift on the fly has a vacuum operation to lock hubs when dial is turned, hubs set to auto. If this system fails, due to hitting an obstacle/whatever, which has caused damage to the vacuum line, you will then have to get out to turn hub from auto to lock. An example...driving through a picked corn field, catching vacuum hose on corn stalk. No...I do not drive in corn fields.
