It's still $75,000 I don't have... to spend on a truck that will only be worth $24,000 in 2022, when the new interiors are released and everyone has to rush get them one a those.

You can probably get a reasonably equipped model in a crew cab 4wd configuration for mid-$40s. The extra $30k in options is...optional.

Now if you account for inflation, using the holy grail 1997 F350 compared to 2019, sure a new top of the line truck is way over a top of the line 97 (applicable to all models and trims), even accounting for inflation.
HOWEVER, the power and features of the old xlt Powerstroke are more akin to a xL base model gasser today. Even though the new truck blows the old one away in tech, features, safety and pretty much everything.
Add all the power and features of a new loaded diesel and it should cost waaay more, because it’s twice the truck!

Or it’s easier to bitsch about how great the olden days were. Sidecars grampa complained that a 1997 pickup cost as much as his farm too!

I wonder how RAM can compete in the HP arena. They are quite a bit behind now. Despite what some who constantly beat the RAM drum think, they need to update their transmission as well. 10 gears > 6.

A little off topic, but I have to ask. When is enough going to be enough for everyone regarding towing in a class 3 truck? 40k, 50k, 60k? Mine was 30k, but I am wondering what ya'lls is.
