Ford 6.7l Fuel Filter Change-Do You Do It Yourself?

Are many of you doing those fuel filter changes yourself? I've watched a YouTube video and it doesn't look that difficult. Had mine changed for the first time in May and about croaked when I got the bill. Are you using Motorcraft filters? Looks like Amazon has a decent price.

I will probably have my mechanic do the oil changes since I get the tires rotated at each change (5000-6000 miles).

Thanks.

  • My manual states the fuel filter replacement should be done every 22,500 miles. For me that is about every two years. So I just let the dealer do it at an oil change. If I put that many miles per year, I MIGHT consider doing it myself.
  • I plan on doing mine myself I do my oil changes and tire rotations I will not pay $150 for an oil change it cost me about $60 I expect the same savings on the fuel filter change. I am sure there will be some spillage.
  • Do it yourself it takes about 30 mins max. But watch this video first:YouTube

But, and this will save you some money. Do not use a wrench on the chassis filter under the drivers seat. Get a big enough strap wrench to fit around the filter and use that to remove and re-install the housing. Using a wrench will wring the bottom of that housing off.

BTW it isn't that messy if you open the drain on the chassis filter and give it 30 mins or so to drain the fuel.

If you are getting the oil changed at someplace that doesn't work on diesels make sure they are using the correct oil.
  • My neighbor does his. I've watched, it's pretty easy, just very messy. My first one will be due at the next oil change and I haven't decided what I'm doing with it yet.
