Question about the 99-03 7.3 super duty
..............
The 5.7 tundra has 381hp @ 5600 RPM and Torque @401 @ 3600 RPM.
The 7.3 ford makes 250hp @ 2600 RPM and Torque @ 525 @ 1600 RPM. What practical difference will I experience dragging my 7500# trailer up 6-8% grades?
I'd appreciate hearing about how your 7.3 SD held up for you and why you sold it or why you've kept it.
Thank You!
Well #1 the torque difference will cover the HP.
The 7.3 was the best diesel Ford ever put in a PU. The 6.7 is a close second due to lack of track record, 5 years, and emissions.
I was a Ford man for 42 years, and chose to get a Cummins, only came in a Dodge/Ram wrapper, well been happy with both, bought used at 234,000, and getting ready in about a week to turn 295,000 miles.
e pull an 11,000# 5er at a GCW of 19,500# with a small timing chip.
These older diesels have the torque to pull that TT just fine.
