Other than having to replace the EGR cooler that burst because the oil cooler clogged from the casting sand International left in the engine when they made it, that was the ONLY major problem I had. Since I had to have the engine half apart to replace both, I had the independent shop that fixed my truck replace the parts that tend to go south on the 6.0. No problems since. Important things to do to a truck with a 6.0 engine:
Add coolant filter.
Change out head bolts with ARP head studs.
Add set of gauges. Idiot lights on the truck only tell you that the damage is done.
Use only Motorcraft fuel and oil filters.
Change oil and fuel filters religiously on schedule.
Monitor voltage of batteries, when one battery goes to pot, the other is sure to follow soon. Replace both. Running sub-par voltage for a long period of time will at best take out the fuel injector control module. At worst it will take out one or more injectors.
I spent the money to "bulletproof" the engine and I have no further problems. It was much cheaper than the alternative of buying a replacement truck.
