Mines pulls hard and gets good fuel economy much better (40%+) than the V10 that originally towed this trailer but it is slightly modified.
I use a powerstroke specialist shop after I found out the local Ford dealer is really really good at guessing and throwing expensive parts at truck luckily they didn't dent the body with them, only my wallet!
At the minimum monitor the known weaknesses (already mentioned) or replace components (bulletproof) to address problem areas.
I haven't driven it long enough to comment on the longevity but it had 220K when I bought it from previous owners who just got back from family trip.
