I know I will get beat up but I am not a Ford basher. But common sense should prevail. Of course there are some folks who may not have had a problem with this motor but overall the reputation of this motor is trash. Of course you could "bulletproof" one but why would you??? Why try too fix MAJOR issues and spend 5 to 7 THOUSAND dollars with no guarantee? The Ford 6.0 and to a lesser extent the 6.4 Diesels were litigated out of production! You could get a Ford V10 and get a great motor. Buy a used Dodge or GM Diesel and get something that has a WAY BETTER REPUTATION. ITS YOUR MONEY! I certainly wish you the best on your decision.
I don't understand it either. Why torture yourself with this decision. Its a gamble that will never pay off. They have no value, running or not running. Dumping more money into these POS's just puts you further in the hole (bulletproofing). Buy anything else except a 6.4 and your chances of TV happiness increase tenfold.
Wow, tough choice, word has it that once fully bullet proofed they are great engines. I have also seen reports of those engines going south. 2006 F350 with only 28,000 miles on it tough choice.
You can put the $$$ into your existing 6.0 and have it bullet proofed, but it is still a 6.0 with upgraded parts.
You could contact
De Stroked the Ford 6.0 to Cummins conversion company, and come up with a great combination.
I bought my 2001 Ram CTD in 2010, and have put 37,000 miles on it since, pulling an 11,000# 5er, it only had 234,000 miles on it when I bought it. Still pulling strong.
