Our gas Chev (230,000 miles)works great and I can make it over Vail pass on I70 at 50 MPH. I know the oil burner crowd will tell me to go with the Diesel, I do know the cost of driving one will be higher than the gas. Any pro or con on this motor? Any thing special I should be looking at ?
#1. You won't find a 6.0 in a mid 90 Ford diesel. They came out in 2003.
#2. The diesel you will find is a 7.3 mechanical diesel.
#3. Several good things and bad things about the mechanical diesel.
The good about an old 7.3 diesel:
They run forever.
They will run on almost any oil.
They take very little maintenance.
They are cheap and easy to fix.
They pull down fantastic fuel mileage.
The bad about an old 7.3 diesel:
They are LOUD.
They come in a box that is almost 20 years old.
The tranny's suck in back of this engine.
They are VERY low HP.
