Just to pick a nit: Not ALL gasoline engines (they are not motors, motors are electrical) need to run high RPM's to work efficiently. Maybe just the normally aspirated ones. The tow vehicle in the sig below pulls about the same weight and loves doing it cross country at 1900-2100 RPM, where it makes 90% of its 420 ft lbs of torque. That's 5th gear at 65 mph. It will do it nicely in 6th, but RPM's fall to around 1700-1800, and that's lugging it a bit. It also gets about 1 MPG better fuel mileage when towing in 5th.
The OP didn't mention which engine his Expy has, probably the bigger V8. It will pull it and the higher RPM is needed on that normally-aspirated engine. Will just have to make a few more fuel stops.
