Dry weights mean nothing. You really have to understand some basic facts. Tow rating is based on a base trim level stripped truck with 1/4 tank of gas and one 150 pound driver. Anything more than that you subtract from the towing rating. Next, manufacturers get that rating by towing a flat bed trailer with XX pounds of weight on it. When you start trying to tow a big box behind your truck those numbers should go down significantly. Wind resistance takes it's toll in a big hurry.
