Read THISin the Detroit Free Press yesterday, which begs the question, why?
After seeing the average price paid for a 2015($44100) one wonders if manufacturers are beginning to finally hit the wall with new vehicle cost. I read stories about increasing popularity of 84 and even 96 month financing, just seems at some point, something's got to give.......
Case in point. A buddy bought a 4WD F 150, 4 door back in 2013. Prices was near the mid 40's in CAD. In his case he has the money to pay in cash...but many don't.
But I was shocked, at the cost of this beautiful F 150. It's a great truck....but the cost of the average new half ton, no matter whether they be GM, Ford, Ram or Toyota...sheesh.
And let's not go to 3/4 or 1 ton jobs...they're even more pricey.
I paid $39k before tax and title for the truck in my sig. It's a basic Tradesman but has all the options of a base SLT, plus some function stuff like gear LSD, integrated bake controller and etc. sticker was $51k.
I initially looked at half ton models but they are limited in capability and aren't really priced any cheaper than heavy duty trucks. A similarly optioned F150 with the 3.5, HD payload and max tow would cost at least as much. When you compare the performance and how robust the various components are...why buy the F150? No value there for me.
