- Camper_GExplorerVery true, they are purpose built. Raptor is designed for off roading.
Just like the new dodge power wagon is. (Off road built). Even though it's 2500 series, it has a low payload rating, i think only 1600 lbs, due to the off road suspension - buckyExplorer IIHigh perf trucks with high rpm torque converters don't do well towing.
The Raptor is a BA truck, not a tow beast. - Camper_GExplorerThey don't give any specs on the trucks. I hope they at least used a chevy with the max tow package so it had the steepest gears in it that you can get in those trucks now. I do think those guys are goobers, but that's beside the point.
The raptor is awesome, no doubt, but it's not really a fair fight. Chevy does not have a dog in this fight right now. The raptor is a purpose built performance truck. To be more fair chevy would need to release a new SS truck with a higher horsepower 6.2 and steeper gearing. I'd like to see that. Same for Ram if they had a 6.4 powered 1500 with steep gearing.
I'm still breaking in my truck so I've not gotten into the skinny pedal on my new Ram much, but i can already tell the 6.4 HEMI has a lot of juice. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorer

OK didn't know that. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorer

What video or test are you referring to? 2017 GM against a 2016 Raptor or F150. I am curious. And on the Raptor vs base 150, very different tunes.
There is a video going around showing a 2016 f-150 6 speed running a 2017 f-150 8 speed. I thought the 2017 was a Raptor. I'll see if I can find it but it doesn't look like it was these guys. Perrysburg Dodgeboy wrote:

Since Chevy really doesn't compete with the Raptor I wish that they had used an F150 with the standard 3.5 Ecoboost. That would be a lot more relevant to me.
They ran the 2017 8 speed up against the 2016 6 speed and it got dusted. Since they are not even running an 1/8 mile the two 2017 trucks should run neck to neck if equipped with the same gears. Not a Ford guy so not sure it the Raptor has a different tune then the other f-150's

Agreed, but they did pit Chevy's fastest accelerating truck against Ford's. Now when Ram comes out with the Hellcat truck it would really get interesting!- Bionic_ManExplorer

The Raptor is pushing 450 HP vs the standard EB at 375.
It looked like they did the same launch in that other story - power braked the 2017 and not the 2016 (actually, I thought that one was like a 2014?). They should launch them the same way - 4x4 engaged, power brake enough so that you don't lose traction, and then let er rip! I am sure the 2017 would still win, but at least that would be closer to apples - apples. - chiefcamperExplorerThese turbo charged engines are very cool. Dual turbos even better......until they break. It will be interesting to see how long they last when they are under strain from towing, heat will be the enemy. Then the $$$$'s to fix? Still though, pretty impressive horsepower ratings!
