The rim size should not matter. Bigger rims have lower tires to make the same diameter.
Not true on the srw trucks at least. The base XL 17" wheels come with little 245s. The 20s offered are considerably taller. In fact the speedo calibration is off for the XL models. Reads several mph high at hwy speeds. 285-70-17 tires make the speedo read right.
Both my 13 and 15 XL 4wd were/are this way.
