Yeah--this is a lot of why I'm worried about the bird. Thing is, my girl's not going to freeze to death in a cabover parked in an urban or suburban setting with her parents' home a few miles away and any number of friends to visit and a 24-hour fitness place to go to. If she gets cold, she'll find warmth.
I'm more worried about her putting something unsafe in this thing to heat it. And leaving Haz in it unheated before she's acclimated her--or leaving her in it heated with something that shouldn't be running when no one is 'home.' (I grew up in pest control, and Dad hated to see a bird in a house he was expected to treat; he told people they had to find alternative quarters for their birds for two full weeks).
It has been my assumption that there wasn't a truly safe way to heat it the way she wants to (especially when she's not present), and you all have confirmed that.
It's clear she will need to acclimate Haz to cold before she moves in full time. She may have already figured that out, but if not, she will when she sees the warnings and instructions on the safest, most recommended heaters available for her situation. Which I can now point her to. :)
Her Dad is a very conventional sort of man, and I don't think he expected it to go this far. He's also the person she consults about buying things like this, and the two of them got ahead of me on the cabover. I was surprised that he didn't ask a few critical questions about the cabover before she bought it, but I think he really just expected her to give up on the idea sooner than she did. Personally, I wouldn't have known the questions to ask.
You've been helpful, thank you!
