Fresh Water Tank automatically filling?

So, I have been camping for over a year in my 2013 KZ Spree Travel Trailer and I haven't had this issue yet. I mainly camp at State Parks that have city water connections so I have only used the fresh water tank and pump once. My fresh water tank fills at the front side of the camper under the awning and the city water connection is on the opposite side of the trailer. I was cooking breakfast outside the other morning and noticed that water was overflowing out of the fresh water fill location. Since it was the final morning and I was getting ready to leave for the day I drained the tank and disconnected the main water supply. How is it possible that the tank would completely fill up without manually filling it?

I know, so did two more people within the same hour.

That's why I responded with the same answer.
  • Thank you for all of your feedback. This definitely gives me a few things to check out.

  • At your water connection there is probably a check valve that is either dirty or needs a new 'O' ring and is leaking water under pressure into the tank. Have had this situation on two previous trailer. Just changed out the water connection, cheap and easy, quick job. Three screws and a threaded water connection.
  • did you taste it?? might be bud lite??? if so I,ll help you empty it.. its your back flow valve ,clean it out and you,ll be fine.
  • Probably a bit of something stuck in the backflow valve. If tank filld, shut off outside water, and use water from tank til is almost enpty. This will move lots of water through the valve and pump. if it does it again, then it is time to locate problem.

Your one way check valve at the pump is stuck, has a piece of debris, or is defective.

Maybe, but maybe not. Our 2008 Spree had a conventional gravity fill but in subsequent years KZ experimented with more than one variation of valved system that eliminated the gravity fill, in which case not having even one of several valves set correctly could result in the scenario the OP described. Unfortunately he hasn't given us any idea as to the model year or model of Spree he has so we therefore don't know what water distribution system he has.
  • Your one way check valve at the pump is stuck, has a piece of debris, or is defective. Try running the pump a few times. If you are still experiencing back flow, repair the pump. There are YouTube repair videos out there, if your unit is out of warranty.
