Fresh water tank question

Not really, the pump will be fine but, after awhile the water in the tank will become stale.

I agree with djgarcia. I travel b/n VA and OK and just stop at some place to sleep and cook or shower along the way.

We normally don't travel with water in the tank if we are stay in Florida and hook up to city water.

When hooked up to City Water, it doesn't run through my water tank. Keep in mind, city water is pressurized and your (modern) fresh water tank isn't. You should have an electric pump to give you water flow through your system.
Most systems that I have seen have two check valves around the water heater that allows the fresh water tank to feed the water heater and other cold water pipes and another check valve from the city water. These are set up so that the fresh water pump shouldn't push water into the city water system and the city water system shouldn't push water back into the fresh water system but both of them can feed your inlet to your water heater along with all the other cold water pipes.

I always travel with tank about 1/3 full to use for potty breaks, hand washing, etc. I almost always empty the tank when we get home and, depending on how long til next trip, I will add just a little, or another 1/3 tank. Like to have water readily available. I have even used some to add to the truck radiator once. You just never know..

Chlorinated water (city water sources) will last a long time in your tank.
Drain and flush tank after trip

Just to allow for unexpected events, potty stops as you travel to your destination, break downs where you on the side of the road for hours, bad tasting water at your RV Park, etc etc. i fill my fresh H20 tank to 1/3. No difference in milage because of extra weight:)

We travel with the tank empty most of the time and have filters (two or three depending on situation) that can take water out of a stream or lake and make it potable, they will take care of camp ground water problems.
I sterilize the tank regularly and use baking soda to kill taste.

Why have a water tank and pump if you don't use them.

I learned quite a few trips ago to always carry water with me. Once the park water was being repaired and once or twice the park water was foul in both smell and taste. So now we carry enough for a day or so. I tend to dump/refill the tank every couple of weeks just to keep the water fresh. I don't think I need to do that so frequently but I do.

The city water does not run through your tank although on some units you can fill your tank from the water connection.
