I know exactly what you mean about not liking the door compared to the traditional door with the keeper mounted on the sidewall. All I can say is you'll get use to it and actually begin to like it over the older style. When you go to close the door no need to go outside to unlatch. It stays open in many positions even with wind. It's hard for someone to slam the door making for the obnoxious loud noise. Maybe somebody else has a modification to remove the feature,
