Fridg fan runs continuously

I have 1999 starcraft travel star with original equipment. And I'm new to rv's. Is the fridg fan supposed to run continuously? The fridge works fine ( after it cools 4ish hours).
  • What brand of refrigerator and model number would help. Are you talking about the fan in the back for cooling the coils? Most should be set to come on at 95 degrees and turn off when the temperature falls below 80 degrees. If the sun is shining on the side of the TT where the refrigerator is located, that could cause it to run. Does it shut off at night??
  • i think you're hearing the converter's fan.
i don't think the fridges in hybrids back then, had fans.

my '07 Roo 23SS has a Dometic and it doesn't have a fridge fan.

if it's the converter fan, either the converter is bad or your battery is bad.
  • The fridge is a domestic RM 2310 gas electric. Fan is the cool cooling fan and it never goes off. Fan is a rodale dc brushless 12v sleeve fan. Md RC-D12M12HWS. I can't see any temp control shut off/on.
  • External fridge fans I've seen are all aftermarket -- and very uncommon. You can buy a thermostat for them (wires in series with the power) to allow them to stop running at certain temperatures.

I ran a 12v PC fan like this in my popup to exhaust the heat from the back of the refrigerator 'cuz there was no stack/chimney as in a full body trailer. Electronic supply store furnished the little button thermostat. I think the Camping World fans come with the thermostat.

  • Thx. I think this is a PC fan. I'll get a thermostat and have a quieter camp site.
  • A button (bimetal disk) thermostat looks something like this:

and comes in various heat ranges such as On at 130°F and Off at 90°

A toggle switch can shut it off as well!
