Ron, that is actually the second rule. The first rule is "if your battery dies, your spouse will gently suggest that it is time to go home, right now."
Don't ask how I know this. File this under the heading of "lessons one learns when one is a newbie and one does not carefully check to see that the seven pin plug is properly plugged into the tow vehicle so that the battery is charging while driving."
Also cross-file it under the heading of "how I learned that I should not often let my battery run down below 12.1 volts because it eventually damages the battery so that it dies unexpectedly in the middle of the night, setting off the propane alarm which is programmed to go off when the voltage drops (who knew??), scaring the heck out of both of us."
We had so many laughs in those days, mostly at my expense.
