From TC to class B

Maybe I should take my Super Duty to FL (is that where they are?) and have them convert me to a Tiger!!!

Dreamer! Mine has no levelers except the Camco ramps. I have to fill or dump various tanks (gas, waste, water, LPG) at start or end of trips. Throw in groceries, CPAP, maybe clean clothes if you don't have enough of those to stock both house and RV. Are the batteries charged? Is the frig cooling down, since it is kept in a nearby storage yard and I cannot plug it in at home in my current housing situation? Will the truck start, since I drive it only for fun things? Worry worry worry....

Yes, can get going quickly from camp. No top to pop down, leveling jacks, maybe putting TC back on truck and other various TC activities. Easier than a TT, yes, but not automatic.

I've said it in my trip reports on this forum: size is the biggest limiting factor to the backcountry travel I have done. Also, I use high clearance more than 4WD; your trips may vary. My Tiger (some models are larger) is 87 inches wide, less than 9.5 feet tall. It has scrapes on top and sides from bushes and trees along the way. I bought it for that sort of exploring/camping in the backwoods. Most RV's these days are way taller, way wider.

Still, keep dreaming. You'll find a way!

Have a look at Leisure Travel Vans - Canadian made and well insulated for cold weather use. We have a model with a murphy bed so half of the 24 ft. length is not devoted to a bed which is only used at night. We have a huge bathroom and residential style shower. We had a Lance truck camper for 7 years and a Class A for 5 years. We find this unit is a cross between the two. Works really well for us.
Oh, and the murphy bed is a residential queen mattress - not some 2 inch foam pad.

We made a similar move into a B+ a couple of years ago. Now driving a 22 foot Kodiak (made in Canada, eh?) with a slide. It is a nice size for driving and parking. Great for touring. Another one we liked real well when shopping was a Chinook. Look on RV trader and there is a few real nice units for sale.

DW is retiring in a few more years and wants to travel. She will not go with me in the little TC. Too small, too claustrophobic. I don't want a huge one. 22-24' on a Ford E 450 with V 10 and 7500# towing capacity so I could tow both a Jeep and a boat. I don't care much about the layout but do want the easy chair behind the passenger cockpit seat.

I actually went shopping last weekend and found a nice 2014 that had what I wanted. But it was a rental with 40K miles on it. That makes me nervous although it does come with a warranty.

Anyway, when the realization hit me that I am not camping in the back country anymore it immediately went to the back burner!! :E

You will have trouble finding these with a tow rating over 5000 lbs. 4wd and tow rating is biggest reason we have a TC.

Someone needs to invent a little 12 volt escalator to replace those TC stairs. ;)

DW is retiring in a few more years and wants to travel. She will not go with me in the little TC. Too small, too claustrophobic. I really like my 4x4 Tiger. Have spent over 500 nights in it so far, and that's with missing some seasons for medical issues and with working full-time for most of the years I've owned it.

I sleep downstairs on the couch bed due to climbing issues. That might not work for 2 people unless they were small and/or slept very cuddled up. I store stuff on the cabover bed and also in the truck cab at night. Cab windows have full removable Reflectix covers to provide insulation, privacy, and light control.

For PhotoMike, with the issue of bending over to get out the door: try going out backwards. Hold the assist handle. Add more assist handles if necessary. Easier to climb down and you don't whack your head on the door top.

I've started using a small lightweight stepstool as an additional outside stairstep.

Some B's have an option for a more regular motorhome door instead of the slider; that might make access easier.

We're thinking the same thing - and as we now take shorter trips, a van style might work - course, it might not, but we're starting to peek at options.

To make us go from TC to any option tho will have to really do the job, and we need 4x4 or AWD ...
