Fuel filter 2013 Ram 3500

For those that do their own maintenance, is there a trick to get the filter lid off? I spent an hour trying to get it off today with no luck. 1-1/8" socket going counter clockwise. This is the first change so hopefully the next time it comes off a little easier.
  • I TRIED to remove my fuel filter cap with a 6" or 7" long 3/8" drive ratchet and 1 1/8" socket (first filter change). The operative word here is 'TRIED'. The cap did not budge. I haven't yet tried it with a 1/2" drive breaker bar. I'm a scaredy cat I guess, I don't want to break the cap. So I guess I'm not the first one fighting a too-tight cap on the first filter change. • It really shouldn't be that tight.....

Might need a cheater on end of ratchet to break loose.

  • Yup, you found the same video I did. I did find another one that said the filter itself was very hard to turn to loosen it to get it off. At least that's what I think he was saying because the audio was poor in that portion.

I do like YouTube for this type of situation when you have a problem.

(Didn't recognize the 1-1/8" being for a diesel since I'm a Ford guy.)

The "1-1/8" socket" is our clue it's a Cummins diesel. :W
