There is no such thing as less than a 3um filter anymore, it's been that way for years. 3um is the best rating a filter can receive, and there isn't one for the OEM canister.
Bosch wants 5um, I have spoken with Bosch engineers directly who looked at the spec and design sheets. Anything better is great, but 3um is not the Bosch spec.
For years the aftermarket filtered pumps had WORSE filtration than stock, much worse in some cases. It wasn't until 2009ish that they started improving the filters after some recommendations where given to them and their users.
