Okay, yall have convinced me to stay with the diesel.:B now I am curious if yall are seeing any difference in milage with the new vehicles using the exhaust fluid. What are the chances of doing away with the exhaust fluid in the near future.:@

I doubt if any difference in MPG would be that noticeable. You might see 1 to 3 MPG up or down.With an RV it's the adventure that counts, ignore the mileage just have fun.

What's wrong with DEF? It generally brings higher FE and more power.Pick the truck you like best. They all now (2013+) require DEF. Fuel economy differences are not significant enough to warrant one brand over another.

Chances of deleting new vehicles? ZIP,ZERO, NADA. DEF technology is so ingrained into the new trucks it is next to impossible to alter them any more.As for the fuel economy? The reports I have seen they are no better than my current truck. And at least some of that has come from the crazy rear end ratios manufacturers are installing in new trucks.My early production 6.7L Cummins dually with a 4.10 rear end gets 10.5-11.5 towing and I have seen as good as 18 highway non towing. Usually at 70 highway I get 17

Keith I respect you but I do have to disagree with you on one point. From what I have read here and other forums fuel economy is not better. In fact is just about the same as my dirty "old" 2007-1/2 Cummins 6.7L And I'm running a 4.10 rear end.

I had a 2001 Dmax. No emissions at all on that truck.
It had 300 HP and 520 TQ.

It was cc, 4X4 DUALLY.

Best it ever got empty was almost 17 MPG.

I now have a practically identical 2011 Dmax

397 HP and 765 TQ.
The power increase is very noticeable.

The best it has done empty is 22 MPG.

Towing the 2011 does a little worse towing due to the fact that it has a lot more power, and it is used to go up the hills faster than the 2001 was able to. There is no free lunch.

I do think that if I were to take it easy towing and not go faster than the 2001 could, that the MPGs of the 2011 may be better...But that hasn't happened yet.:B I'm having too much fun to slow down!

Maybe it has no direct effect on power BUT the engineers are now a lot freer to tune the engine for max power AND efficiency with the DEF cleaning the exhaust up afterwards.

The air coming out of the exhaust pipe is CLEANER than what goes into the engine w/ DEF equipped trucks. FACT!

OK, guys you better read up on how the DEF works, it's not injected into the engine, it's injected into the exhaust stream. Here's a cut and paste on the GM setup:
Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR )
The SCR system is an after-treatment system, since it treats the vehicle’s exhaust after combustion.
Here’s how it works:
A fine mist of DEF is injected into the exhaust while the engine is running. The heat from the exhaust converts the DEF into ammonia. When the ammonia, mixed with exhaust gases, reaches the SCR catalyst, the NOx emissions are broken down.
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) then captures soot to incinerate it during regeneration cycles.
Water vapor, nitrogen and reduced emissions exit the exhaust system
So in the end, it has no effect on mileage or power and any gains or losses are a direct result from other changes.

I get that now with a 4.10 rear end in my dually pulling 13,500 pounds. So, you made the outlandish statement, please prove it!

Not "proof", but on Cummins diesel site, those who switched from 2012 Rams without DEF to 2013 Rams WITH DEF, report much fewer regens, and AT LEAST a 10% mileage improvement. From 12-14 solo to 16-18, even more, solo.

Please disprove it! Do you guys read Diesel Power mag or anything else except web posts? Do you understand the technology? My experience between 6.4 an 6.7 is improved mileage, DEF, transmission or luck it is true.
