My 6.4 gets terrible mileage towing, best I've seen is 11 MPG. My trailer is light weight too, only 3500 lbs. Driving speed is 55 almost always, my trailer tires are only rated for 60mph.
It's not a daily driver or grocery getter, if I'm not towing, I'm not driving it - can't give you any feedback on mpg as a daily driver / grocery getter.
In my experience, getting 11 mpg on any gas vehicle towing a TT is great, not terrible. Your 3,500 lb TT has about the same frontal area drag as a 8,000 lb TT. A diesel will certainly get better, but 11 is great towing a TT. Towing my 12K fiver I consider 8 mpg good for a gas vehicle. My 2015 Ram diesel only got 11 mpg towing the same fiver. There is a lot of aerodynamic drag that must be overcome towing anything that looks like a box.
