To do bedlams idea you need to get away from refusing the dually as part of the equation. Since you're not planning full time rather 5 months at home, you can park s nice yet affordable DD vehicle at home to get past this.
I'm a toy guy like bedlam so pulling a garage/recroom is preferable to me. But you don't mention bikes, quad etc. this still would be an ideal place to house all your moss though. Batteries, fuel cell etc. but then you don't have that when you're boon docking without the trailer.
Eh no perfect solution but in my experience a bigger truck is never the wrong choice when doing what we do.
