Funky Smell

Bio, french fries or fish smell?

I'd bet on fuel - were you running biodiesel or a different blend? I've noticed different smells with different fuels from time to time. I've never burned straight biodiesel bit people have told me it can actually smell like French fries.

I had an 02 Cummins/Dodge 2500 4x4. The puke bottle is right behind the fan on the front of the engine --- where, when it isn't emptied at every oil change, the fan nicely distributes the oil all over the back side of the radiator in a fine mist which then collects dust, and leads to this:



Then overheating follows. I took mine out and soaked it down with engine degreaser then hosed it off. Changed the coolant and the thermostat at the same time.

Yes, but you have to keep in mind the PCV system on your truck (2010+) is quite a bit different than a 2001 tractor motor :). I'd bet yours captures or filters the vapors, and the ole Cummins just breathes it out to the atmosphere.

I use Rotella 15W40 in my 6.4L and have never noticed an odor. FWIW. Cheers John.

And someone on this board calls it " Rosmella Oil" :B

On my MDT I notice an onion smell or "Body Odor" type smell when I shut down sometimes. I do run Shell Rotella...
