Furnace Not Coming ON

Hi, I am new to the travel trailer world. Purchased my trailer used in September. I have a 2008 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite. My furnace fan comes on when I turn on the wall switch, however it doesnt light, so the fan shuts off in a couple minutes. I shut off the wall switch and turn it back on and same thing...it wont light. I removed the cover and tapped the ignitor and it started up. Heated for a few hours until thermostat shut it down. When it tried to come back on it wouldnt start. I removed front panel again and just touched the ignitor area and it started again. Has anyone experienced this? looks to me like I need a new ignitor???

Check wire connectors. The crimp style can become loose. We had that happen and the repair tech replaced them with wire nuts where possible.
    Hope you get it working.

I'm in this camp that something like this is wrong. The OP stated it came on and ran through a full cycle after tapping the ignitor. This would rule out the LP being off, or having air in the lines. Something is not letting it ignite correctly. Fuel supply to the furnace is not the issue. Getting it ignited sounds like the problem. You just have to figure out why.
  • I'm in the camp with testing your stove first. When our fridge wouldn't switch to gas-only mode it was because we had too much air in the LP lines. Running the stove for 5 minutes helped get everything working again.

    1. First of all there is a delay for the furnace.

I.E. You turn it on it does not come on for a few seconds. Some like mine is more than a few seconds and seems like forever.

So, flipping it on and off several times you are in the middle of all the delays and it won't come on.

    2. Second. Most furnaces with a TT with a convertor NEED 12 volt for the thermostat to work.

The furnace will come on without 12 volt but when it reaches it's set temp and shuts off it will NOT come back on again.

So stop turning it on and off first of all.
Then check that your convertor is charging your coach battery and that your battery is charged properly.

Sounds like that is all that is wrong with it. a little bit of operator error and a possible low and/or dead battery. :W
  • Make sure your lp is turned on. Try lighting your stove. It happened to us, we forgot that we had turned off lp.
  • Check wire connectors. The crimp style can become loose. We had that happen and the repair tech replaced them with wire nuts where possible.
    Hope you get it working.
