By my sig, i pull with a 2002 8.1.....Its specs are roughly 340HP and 455 lb ft of torque. If a guy were to opt for a 2000-2002 Cummins, approx the same specs, does a Diesel pull any easier. Just a thought.
I realize they tow at a much lower RPM.
Thanks. Just curious.
Well many of the diesel heads missed the fact that you can't get a diesel and gas with the same specs, not even close!!
1. HP match 07 to 10 Cummins 6.7 350 HP and minimum 610 to 650ft. lb., then the 11 and 12 is still 350 HP, but up to 800 ft. lb. of torque!
2. Torque match 01 Cummins 235 hp and 460 ft. lb.
3. Displacement Cummins 8.3 240 to 330 HP and 660 to 950 ft. lb. it is at a disadvantage as it ONLY weighs 1,570# :B
4. Fuel economy not even close averages are 8mpg and 12 mpg, do the math at least 50% better and diesel only cost about 10% to 20% more.
The gasser's that have never pulled with a diesel, will never get it, simple as that.
I have a simple timing chip on my 01. state gains 50 hp and 125 ft. lb. so my 01 is theoretically at 285hp and 585ft. lb. of torque.
Still 50 hp short of the 8.1 HP rating, and I pull 11,000# 5er at speed up 6% and 7% grades, with a set of 3.55's!
Edit:

There is no replacement for displacement is what I've seen posted here numerous times. It will be interesting to see if they'll have any comments on this.
Well I would doubt that! My 5.9 (2.2 liters less than an 8.1, 27%)stock has more torque than the 8.1., but just 30% less HP. would agree with you, and it is a very de-tuned vintage.
