Not according to my aircraft maintenance instructors at BCIT and in my over 45 years in aviation, engines were never referred to as motors, so I guess it depends on where you come from.
Well I guess you and your aircraft maintenance instructor are going to have to change a lot of words. :W

Outboard Engine
Engine vehicle
Engine pool
Like I said, the word motor is all inclusive. I can call a gasoline engine a motor but I can't call an electric motor an engine.
You might show your instructor the following:

Noun
A machine, esp. one powered by electricity or internal combustion, that supplies motive power for a vehicle or for some other device... :)
