The black smoke is actually burnt fuel just not burnt clean. You can clean it up with more air but you will have to get a bigger wheel and then it's hard to get the turbo spooled up. That's usually what takes them so long to get going at the track, getting it spooled up.
Makes sense to me. That's a problem with all turbos and why you see some manufacturers going to multiple smaller turbos and twin scroll turbos instead of one big one in order to reduce spool up time.
