Rob Codenns, Idaho Rob, has been testing DPF in place tuning on his LMM. Been seeing a solid 3+ MPG gains and fewer regens. Guess GM doesn't always get stuff right.
Just because the thing produces less soot and requires fewer regens doesn't necessarily mean that it is producing less pollution.
Ching, we have a winner.
NOX will be sky high on his engine and if he doesn't know it, he is ignorant of the facts.
To look at something coming out of the pipe and say that is clean or not clean is ludicrous. You can't tell other than soot on a diesel. It's like people looking at used diesel oil and saying whether the oil is good or not. They are just fooling themselves.
I had many cars go to smog over my lifetime and I was usually shocked at the outcome until I got on a smog machine myself.
I had a big block Chevy in a Nova that would pull a low 12's high 11's. It was in tip top tune. Took it to get it smogged; it failed. The NOX were out of sight. WTH? "This engine is clean." WRONG! The tech took about 15 degrees of timing out of it plugged the vacuum advance and it passed with flying colors. It was a pig and burned a lot more fuel but it was super clean and I saw it on the 4 gas myself. Goose, just because "YOU" think the engine is clean doesn't make it so. Only the 4 gas will tell what is clean and what is dirty.
The reason Goose2448 friend won't take me up on my billion dollar offer is because HE knows it won't pass EPA standards. I guarantee the guy that writes this tune knows it. Some of his customers obviously don't, but he does if he has done any work on a 4 gas like I have.
One more time. If your friend thinks his tune will pass EPA standards have him submit it to the EPA for their stamp of approval. If it passes he is a billionaire over night. If not, your statement of "actually my truck is cleaner without the dpf then with"
is blowing as much smog as your truck. :B
Seriously, go to your friend and say" "Hey there is this guy on a forum I go to and he says your tune won't pass EPA OEM standards for new diesels." I told him my engine is cleaner with your tune and without my DPF. Who is correct. Be sure to say "EPA OEM standards for new diesels." Then come back here and tell what he said.
Think about it. Do you really think this guy would pass up a billion dollar opportunity? Or do you think your truck is a lot more dirty then you think?
