In CA, diesel busses for school districts have just about been outlawed. The school district I worked for has just about eliminated their diesel units and has gone CNG. They bought a CNG compressor station $$$$ and make their own. Originally they were making CNG for about a dollar a gallon (excluding the cost of the compressor) with no road tax. Sweet!
As the older diesel busses were decommissioned, they were not allowed to sell them but had to crush them and destroy the engines.
