The shift towards gas engines over diesel began with the 6.0L and 6.4L diesel fiasco. Ford sold a ton of these engines to fleets and the unreliability and huge repair bills turned fleet managers off of diesel. In my area, there are a lot of Ford V-10's and Ram/Cummins cab and chassis in applications that were previously pretty much dominated by Ford diesels.
