When I pulled a 5 to 6 thousand pound trailer with my 1999 5.7 Suburban 4x4 it would get 10.5 at the best. Put a head wind in front of us and it got 9. The last time I pulled my new trailer(right at 5000lbs)with the Suburban I had a head wind all the way home from the trailer dealership in Los Angeles. Worst pull of my life! Didn't matter what direction I went there was a head wind! That netted me 8.5 MPG. Now I pull with a Duramax, 9 with a head wind, up to 13 with out a head wind.
