Glad you said similar protection for debit cards run as credit.
Debit card protection is a courtesy but credit card protection is the law.
With a debit card, the money has left your account and there is no FEDERAL LAW that states how long the bank can take to investigate or replace the money although some states may have a law.
Credit card if there is a problem, you don't have to pay until it is resolved.
That is not 100% accurate.
Check with your bank on their policies. But as long as you use your debit card as CREDIT and you get the same fraud protection as if you used a credit card. Yes, the $$ will leave your account and the bank will determine how long it takes to get your $$ back but you will get it back.
Visa's rulesWhat happens if someone steals my Visa Debit card and uses it fraudulently?
If your Visa Debit card is lost or stolen and fraudulent activity occurs, you are protected by Visa's Zero Liability policy.* That means 100 percent protection for you. Whether purchases occur online or off, you pay nothing for fraudulent activity.
If you notice fraudulent activity on your Visa Debit card, promptly contact your financial institution to report it. It is important to continually monitor your monthly statement to identify any unauthorized transactions.
Using the debit portion fraudulently is hard as you need a PIN which should never be written on the card.
