- dwb619ExplorerDave, just like you, only I don't have the solenoid. Use an illuminated rocker switch under steering wheel to control pump.
- Dave_H_MExplorer IIdw, lets pony up and post it.
I run a gas aux and would be interested if you info runs along the method I did with my install.
i have an automotive type 12 volt pump pulling from the dip tube fitting on top of the aux. To prevent siphoning, I have a veton rated 12 volt normally closed valve between the fuel pump and the output end of the hose that goes into the filler neck of the truck tank.
I do the on and off power with the upfitter switches in the Ford.
I also added an in cab fuel guage for the aux so I don't run the pump dry. - richardcoxidExplorer IICheck out "aerotanks.com" in SO CA
- dwb619ExplorerCannot be "gravity" fed. Has to be plumbed thru pump, pulling from fitting on top of aux tank. Look for the EPA tag on your truck, do not exceed total capacity of vapor recovery system.
Now, how about some one post a link to the regulations banning aux gas tanks. Not just what "I have been told".
I have seen three links to "gas" aux tanks in this thread alone.
So, why are they advertising "illegal" products?
Now, having said all that, I will add, when we up-graded our trailer and truck in 2001-2003, no RV dealer in the Augusta,Georgia or Columbia, South Carolina would even talk about adding extra tanks, gas or diesel
I don't know how to post a link, so if anyone is really interested as to what the federal government requires,Google this:FMCSA Reg. 393.65
Also 49CFR393.67(pay particular attention to paragraph "c", regarding vehicles of less than 10,000#) - fj12ryderExplorer III

Why not provide the details in the thread? I'm sure there are people who want to know what it takes to do it legally.
Still waiting. And I ain't the one wanting to do it. Done did , in 2001, legal then, and legal now. You have CERTAIN methods of installation that must be adhered to.
Really interested in your reg's , care to provide the link?
P.S., I have already provided the poster who asked the question ALL the details for a LEGAL install in a pm.
I've read lots of posts that say it shouldn't be done, so why don't you show how it can be done? - dwb619ExplorerStill waiting. And I ain't the one wanting to do it. Done did , in 2001, legal then, and legal now. You have CERTAIN methods of installation that must be adhered to.

I said I believe it is illegal to plumb it into the OEM line. This has been discussed before and chapter and verse have been cited. I believe if you do a search you'll find all the discussions.
If you're serious about doing this, then I suggest giving RDS a call and ask them as I'm sure they know the rules. - dwb619ExplorerI believe it is only illegal to "gravity feed" from an auxilary "gas" tank. If "gas" tanks are illegal why are the manufacturers allowed to market them?
I do believe we have some "urban legends" floating around.
Please provide link to specific state or federal transportation regulation that clearly show "gas" auxilary tanks to be illegal. - Dave_H_MExplorer IIGoPac, where did you get that information.
If it is totally inaccurate would you not be misleading a lot of people? - GoPackGoExplorerI believe it is illegal to plumb an auxiliary gas fuel tank into the OEM filler line. I think your only option is to replace your OEM tank with a larger one from an aftermarket supplier.
I have a diesel truck with an RDS aux tank in the bed that IS plumbed into the OEM line because that is legal.
