I have never seen a measurable improvement in fuel mileage with my vehicles as they age. The 2008 F250 I have now, with the 5.4 gasser and 5spd auto, has gotten the exact same mileage ever since I've owned it - 15.4mpg highway not towing, anywhere from 7mpg to 10.5mpg towing depending on the location of Pluto and Neptune... although it does seem to average about 10mpg towing. 45,000 miles on it now. The 15.4mpg on the highway not towing doesn't change if it is loaded or not, I have a cap on the bed.
I find it interesting that the on board computer's fuel mileage almost always measures about 1/2 mpg better than what I get using a calculator.
